Our gender endocrine services offer hormone treatment that provides effective and timely treatment for trans and non-binary people in the following way:
· Prescribe medicines for the treatment of gender dysphoria;
· Follow recommendations for safety and treatment monitoring
Most of the medications used for the treatment of gender dysphoria are not licensed for this specific indication, which is called prescribing as off licence medication. This is not unusual with hormone treatment, for example GPs will be familiar with their use in primary care for other purposes.

The steps for prescribing hormone care.
Titration:
· Dose titration – this means calculating and, if necessary, changing how much of a drug is given to produce the best results without causing too many side effects
Monitoring:
· Administration, Initiation and duration of treatment, Monitoring and interpreting laboratory results, Anticipated treatment effects.
To facilitate this process, we review patients in our virtual clinic and require blood test results to be supplied to us by the patient while the patient remains under our care.
We are committed to providing the necessary guidance and support to ensure effective hormone management for patients. We have created the guidelines in this information hub to help answer frequently asked questions and guide people through common queries.
